CARE Seminar to address Disablity and Employment Issues on October 8-Register Today!

October is designated as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. To mark the occasion Living Independently for Today and Tomorrow will be hosting a day long seminar entitled “Creating an Atmosphere of Resources and options for Employment success” (CARE). The seminar will take place on Wednesday October 8, from 9 am to 4:30 pm at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center (1223 Mullowney Lane).
The seminar will include two topic tracks: one for employers focusing on addressing the myths, and misconceptions and possible fear of hiring people with disabilities and a track for people with disabilities who are seeking employment that will provide them with information on how to be best prepared when applying for jobs.
Topics to be addressed in the employer track include: ADA requirements for employment, tax incentives and benefits, preventing discrimination, reasonable accommodations, programs to assist employers in diverse hiring success, as well as providing answers to frequently asked questions.
Topics to be addressed in the job seeker track include: ADA requirements for employment, reasonable accommodations, Medicaid for workers with disabilities, Social Security benefits planning (CWIC), disability rights, what to do if you feel you are being discriminated against, transportation, as well as providing answers to frequently asked questions.
Along with the speakers there will be a vendor area where companies and organizations that specialize in assisting people with disabilities to lead independent lives and achieve competitive employment will be on hand to discuss their work and how they can partner with job seekers and employers to help create an inclusive work environment.
Registration for the day long conference is $50 for a business ($30 for additional attendees from the same business) and $25 for job seekers (scholarships available).
