Consumer Services

LIFTT offers consumer services in five key areas, each designed to foster individual empowerment.

1.   Information and Referral

LIFTT provides information and referral for persons with disabilities seeking to meet such needs as affordable & accessible housing, energy assistance, service animals, assistive devices/equipment, employment, and transportation. LIFTT also assists its consumers in navigating the process of applying for such government benefits as Food Stamps, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. When and if appropriate LIFTT also provides consumers with referrals to appropriate legal representation.

2.   Self-Advocacy

LIFTT is committed to helping consumers take responsibility and become active participants in their own lives by developing the skills necessary to advocate for themselves and their needs with regards to housing, education, health care, benefits, income, employment, accommodation, disclosure and social acceptance.

3.   Peer Support

LIFTT’s is committed to creating a mutually supporting network among persons with disabilities within our service area. Peers are individuals living successfully with disabilities who e have indicated a willingness to share there experience in order to educate others. Peer Support can include one-one as well as small and even large group interactions

4.   Skills Training

LIFTT provides services to persons with disabilities to help them gain the skills they need to thrive on their own.  Skills are taught either on an individual basis or in a group setting. Skills taught can range from learning to apply for social security, to budgeting, to discovering how to acquire a piece of equipment through Medicaid, and to learning to discuss your disability with employers.

5.   Self Directed Personal Assistance

In keeping with our mission of helping consumers live as independent a life as possible, LIFTT provides Self Directed Personal Assistance. A Medicaid driven program, Self Directed Personal Assistance allows people with disabilities who qualify under Medicaid guidelines, or their representative, to hire, train, and supervise the personal assistants working in their homes, allowing them to stay in their own homes and communities.

Community Services

Beyond providing resources for individual empowerment, LIFTT also works to promote acceptance and inclusion of persons with disabilities through social action and systems change.

1.   Social Action

LIFTT works with schools, businesses, and community organizations to increase awareness of the issues facing persons with disabilities and to help them better serve the disability community.

2.   Systems Change

LIFTT works in a non-partisan manner with government at all levels to educate officials on the realities of life for persons with disabilities. LIFTT helps to design and advocate for legislation and policies that produce a framework within which persons with disabilities can achieve self-determination. LIFTT also works to assure that once such legislation and policies are in place, they are properly enforced and administered.
